Queenstown, New Zealand During Spring of 2001 we were fortunate enough to visit Queenstown, New Zealand. Queenstown is located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, pictured below. From the lake, a steamship that has been operating for about 90 years takes visitors to Walters Farm Station. Near Queenstown are some fabulous hiking trails. One such is the Routeburn Track, in Mt. Aspiring National Park. The Routeburn can take three days to hike from end to end. The valley is lush, with a river that is clear like a swimming pool. We made day hikes only, and managed to hike about 8 miles deep into the Routeburn Valley. Below are several pictures of the Routeburn.
